The 30th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP30) is being held in Belém, the capital of Pará, Brazil, from 10 to 21 November 2025. On the morning of 12 November local time, GEM Co., Ltd., as a leading representative of China’s circular economy sector, was invited to participate in the “China’s Pathway to Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality” side event at the China Pavilion, co-hosted by the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation (NCSC) and the China Association of Circular Economy. The event brought together more than one hundred representatives from governments, international organizations, and the business community worldwide to discuss energy transition, energy efficiency, decarbonization, and the circular economy.

As a Chinese enterprise invited to the UN Climate Conference for the third consecutive year, GEM’s Director of ESG Management, Xu Xiaoyu, delivered a keynote speech outlining the company’s “Flexible Globalization” strategy, rooted in the integration of technology and culture. By combining technology empowerment, industrial co-development, and cultural integration in Indonesia, this strategy offers an innovative model for advancing collaboration across the global green industry value chain.

In Indonesia, GEM has adopted a distinctive model that integrates industry, technology, and culture to establish a world-leading “Technology + Green + Smart” nickel lighthouse factory. Its 150,000-ton annual nickel metal project—ranked among the world’s top three—has reached full capacity, supported by downstream production lines including 50,000 tons of ternary precursor materials, 30,000 tons of nickel-cobalt-manganese sulfate crystals, 30,000 tons of electrolytic nickel, 5,000 tons of cobalt tetroxide, and 5,000 tons of nickel hydroxide. This has enabled GEM to build a fully integrated value chain from nickel laterite ore to advanced battery materials, realizing its industrial philosophy of “input nickel laterite, output battery materials.”

GEM is also advancing high-level talent development in Indonesia. The company has jointly launched five batches of the “Indonesian Government – GEM – CSU” master’s and doctoral engineering program, training 266 Indonesian graduate-level professionals to date. In parallel, GEM and Central South University have jointly funded the establishment of a world-class China-Indonesia Joint Research Laboratory for New Energy Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Technology at the Bandung Institute of Technology. The company has also proposed a “Talent Development Initiative” to cultivate future Indonesian experts, achieving a synergy of “going global” and “integrating locally,” and becoming a model for “growing together with Indonesia.”

At COP30, GEM was awarded the honorary title of “Case Enterprise on Path Toward Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality,” reflecting strong national recognition of GEM’s outstanding contributions to global green and low-carbon development.

In recent years, GEM has continued to receive recognition from authoritative institutions in the field of ESG. The company has been selected for the Forbes China Top 50 Sustainable Industrial Enterprises, included in best-practice ESG case studies of listed companies, featured in the UN Global Compact’s “20 Best Sustainability Cases in China,” and ranked on the Fortune China ESG Impact List 2025, cementing its position as a benchmark for ESG excellence among multinational enterprises.

Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, COP30 places “implementation” at the center of its agenda, urging the world to shift from climate commitments to concrete actions. Through its participation in the UN Climate Conference for three consecutive years, GEM has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to green development and its growing influence in global climate governance. Looking ahead, GEM will continue to drive innovation and green technologies, actively support China’s dual-carbon goals, contribute to the development of the global new energy industry, and play an increasingly significant role in the global transition toward a sustainable future.
